Low Carbon Spatial Planning
This component dealing with improving low carbon and carbon neutral transport infrastructure to support tourism sector related public and non-motorized transport.
Therefore, truly sustainable transport solutions are needed to address GHG emissions reduction targets from travel & tourism in Montenegro.
Further, the project directly supports four out of the seven priority areas identified by the Montenegro Strategy for Sustainable Development (MSSP), namely 1) sustainable mobility through appropriate management in transport; 2) sustainable tourism as a leading sector of the economy; 3) sustainable urban development, and 4) improved rational use of energy, increased use of energy from renewable sources.
This will be achieved mainly through development of sustainable urban mobility and implemented low carbon tourism infrastructure.
It will do so by promoting country’s transition towards a carbon neutral travel & tourism, minimizing energy use and transport in and around new green-field development projects, helping tourism industry to identify and implement cost-effective mitigation options in travel and accommodation sectors.
In order to better connect our cities within international trends and EU initiatives of sustainable urban mobility, project partners are involved in the European Mobility Week www.mobilityweek.eu leads by UNDP national coordination.
Additionally, working on sustainable urban planning special attention has been given to new bike corridors and routes such is EuroVelo8 Mediterranean Bike Route www.eurovelo8.com. Cooperation has been start with European Cyclists Federation in order to mark Montenegro’s most valuable tourists places from border of Croatia passing through Boka Bay and two National Parks (Lovcen and Skadar Lake Park) to the Albania. In the upcoming period, the preparation of the study and preliminary design for the developing of the EURO VELO 8 route passing through Montenegro will be initiated.
As part of the sustainable urban planning a special attention has been given to new bike corridors and routes networks across Europe that are passing through Montenegro. The most important one the EuroVelo8 Mediterranean Bike Route www.eurovelo8.com is updated in January 2017. After fruitful cooperation with European Cyclists Federation in 2016, Montenegro’s most valuable tourists places starting from border of Croatia passing through Boka Bay and two National Parks (Lovcen and Skadar Lake Park) to the Albania, are now recognized at this European Cycling Route. In the upcoming period, the preparation of the previous feasibility study and preliminary designs for the developing of the EuroVelo8 route passing through Montenegro will be initiated.
Interesting investors and the public and private sectors will have opportunity to contribute in reduction of CO2 emission in tourism sector by investing in the revitalization of the proposed cycling corridor through Coastal Area and two National Parks: Lovcen and Skadar Lake. Co-financing for such kind of projects would be co-financing by the project POZIV.
